You didn’t have to know the address, you didn’t even have to know the name. Back in the day, all you had to say was “The Hamburger Stand across the street from Compton High School” and everyone knew you are talking about Mom’s Burger Stand.
But did you know that Mom’s Burgers was originally named Richie’s Drive-In and opened for business in 1960?

Back in the day, do you remember going to the Drive-In Theatre with your parents while in your PJ’S bundled up in a blanket in the backseat of their car? Do you remember the playground area underneath the big screen and those big box speakers? Or perhaps, as a teen or young adult, do you remember going on a date watching a movie under the stars? If you said yes, then you know those were the Good ‘Ol Days!
Did you know the Compton Drive-In was considered one of Compton’s treasures? The Drive-In located at 2111 E. Rosecrans Avenue opened in 1949 by Ted Mann. On January 6, 1950 it was re-opened by Pacific Theatre.
The Compton Drive-In was one of the few lucky Pacific Drive-Ins that had a Mural on its screen tower. The Compton Drive-In had a mural of Viking Ships and had a car capacity of 1,196. The Drive-In closed on January 7, 1995.

Kevin Roosevelt Moore known to the world as Keb’ Mo is no stranger to his Compton High School classmates. Back in the Day, the 5 time Grammy Award Winning Singer-Songwriter and Guitarist was a member of the Marching Band, the Orchestra, and the Dance Band.
Did you know our Classmate and former Chanteur member Angela Lewis was a background singer for Tom Jones? Yes it’s true! In the late 80’s this songbird had the opportunity to travel all over the world (including Iceland) with the Superstar! Take a look at the videos and tell us what think!
